Interview transcript (by the webmaster, if you use it on your website/blog, please mention mine, thank you)

1- You have a great start 2007 but since it declined a little bit, what is that when you are hoping to get this form back ?

F.G : I’m trying to find my best form again, I’ve been playing really good the first part of the year, and when I went to the clay season, it was a little bit tough for me the first matches, but it’s only two tournaments I played, and I have many more to come so I have to do it well since Rome until French Open.

2- What do you feel you learn from Monte-Carlo, and the new clay season, for you gonna get you back on clay ?

F.G : I mean, I’m feeling better, in Monte-Carlo, I had a good practrice, but I didn’t feel very good on court, and last week, I didn’t play my best tennis, but no way the week is new, you have to improve everytime, and here’s a good chance

3- As you got the quarter finals last year, does it give you confidence that you could do well again this year ?

F.G : Yeah, it’s a place where I can play very good tennis, here, the court is a little bit faster, and that’s very good for my game.

4- Why do you feel that clay is your best surface, why do you like it so much ?

F.G : Normally I like it, I only have played two tournaments, and I have three more left, so I have enough time to recover but it has been almost one year without playing on clay, and I played Davis Cup and Viña this year, I mean it wasn’t enough and now I feel like an hard-courter.

5- Do you feel, the aim for you is to get ready for the French Open as you talked earlier ?

F.G : Yeah, but every tournament is important for me, but of course, French Open is more important, but I’m trying to play good every week.

González recognised that in the latest tournaments, his level decreased, but affirmed that “I’m still the same player and I’ll have good and bad moments”.

He said that he was feeling well physically and hope to play more matches, that’s why he’ll play the tournament of Hamburg, Roland-Garros and the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf, which will start on May 20th just before the French Open.

His coach, Larry Stefanki, recommended him to not play the World Team Cup to relax one week before the French Open.

González said to the AP, that “at the beginning, I was not supposed to go there, but as I played a few matches lately, i think it’s good to play before Roland-Garros”. “There was no problem or no discrepancy with Larry (Stefanki)”, he said

The sportsman said that his goal in Rome is to “win the next match, because it’s necessary to think day by day”
