Fernando lost in the first round of the ATP Tournament of Estoril against the Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in straights sets 2/6 4/6. Both players played under terrible conditions (a lot of rain). Mathieu dominated easily the first set, he broke Fernando many times, he won in 35 minutes 6/2. Fernando played better in the second set, but not enough to win it, however, he made some great points but also many points were out. If only the forehand and the serve worked…. Mathieu won 6/4. It’s the third victory in a row for “Paulo”.
Since reaching the Australian Open final in January, Gonzalez has six ATP-level matches. The 26-year-old falls to 12-7 this year.
Well, it’s a match to forget for Fernando !! We know the player he is, and we’re sure that he’ll be back with better results in the next upcoming weeks, in Roma, Hamburg and Paris !!

Fernando affirmed that the persistent rain registered through the match cannot serve to justify his defeat against Mathieu.
“It is necessary to be ready for all type of situations, even with rain”, honored the Chilean tennis player.
Fernando said that he didn’t sign the letter sent by Federer and Nadal to the ATP Tour to keep the MS Monte-Carlo as a Masters-Serie, because he disagreed with a few points.

He was invited by the Sport Lisboa Benfica cycling team for a trip along the beach. Changing his tennis clothes to cycling jersey, does feel a bit strange for Fernando 
The journalist said “it looks like professional” lol Fernando said : “it looks like ? (with a smile), let’s see how it is”. This kind of activity was new and fun, and a beautiful scenery like this, you can’t see it when you play on a tennis court. For Fernando, it was almost the warm-up for his practrice session. For him, it seems to be harder than he thought to be. He said : “it was very tough, because you are very tired with the arms but the bike is very good, you have a very good speed and it’s fun”. According to the journalist, he’s thinking of buying a bike now.
